The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” visa bans imposed by the US on five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and disinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Action as ‘Coercion’

European leaders such as Emmanuel Macron accused Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to efforts to introduce legislation regulating US-based technology firms.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they oppose,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “This government will not stand for these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
